Blackthorn is a common shrub or small tree found throughout Ireland, known for its dense, thorny branches and small white flowers that bloom in early spring, followed by dark purple fruits known as sloes. Native to Ireland, nocturnal badgers frequently use blackthorn wood to reinforce and fortify the entrances and tunnels of their setts.
